OPERATION SILENT LAMBS

Intelligence received indicated the inflow of large quantity of smuggled gold, which had been smuggled into Mumbai, through large number of carriers, to northern Kerala, through the operations run by different gangs. The quantity of inflow was estimated to be around 500 Gold Biscuits (average) per gang. The intelligence was developed and a definite source of information was built up. Thus based on definite information about the movement of smuggled gold from Mumbai to Malabar area, an operation was chalked out in three parts.



 



 

In the first part of the operation, one bus namely "Jayaraj Ballal Motors" from Kollur to Guruvayur was intercepted around 
2230 Hrs. on 17-8-2001 
at Manjeswar Sales Tax Check Post and three passengers namely, Haris, Hamza and Rasheed were caught, all carrying Gold Biscuits, concealed in long cloth bags tied around their waist, the numbers being 
34, 33 and 37 respectively.

 

In continuation, in the
second part of the 
operation on 18-8-2001,
two individuals namely, K.Usman and P.Kunhi Mohammed, were
intercepted on board Mangalore- Coimbatore 
Fast Passenger Train and 
the officers seized 33 Gold Biscuits and Indian Currency totally valued Rs.17,46,704/- and 31 Gold Biscuits and Indian Currency totally 
valued Rs.16,40,586/- respectively from them.

 

In continuation, in the third part of the operation, on the same day, the residence of Pulikuth Hamzath Abdussalaam @ Hamza @ Kunjumon was searched and resulted in the recovery of 38 Gold Biscuits, Indian Currency, Foreign Currency and one Computer of total value Rs.36,79,427/- and e-mail print outs showing compensatory payments amounting to Rs.36 Crores.

 


The whole operation resulted in the recovery of 206 Gold Biscuits valued Rs.1.07 Crores, Indian Currency Rs.15.67 lakhs, Foreign Currency valued Rs.1.36 lakhs (total seizure valued Rs.1,23,66,000/-) and e-mail printouts showing compensatory payments, by sale of smuggled gold, amounting to more than Rs.36 crores.
